My Therapeutic Approach

I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and providing a space which allows clients to explore their difficulties in a safe, supportive, confidential and trusting environment. I take an individual formulation approach to my practice considering the biological, social and psychological aspects of problems.  Within this, I will work with clients to identify the most appropriate evidence based treatment approach within the available time. I am committed to helping individuals to achieve their full potential and identify individual values and helping them achieve their goals.


I offer a confidential and sensitive service to my clients providing evidence-based psychological therapy, including assessment and treatment for a range of emotional, behavioural, and psychological difficulties.


My clinical work focuses on working with adolescents, adults, and the elderly with a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, phobias, work-life balance, pain management, anger management, stress management, goal setting, grief and trauma.  I am also able to provide neuropsychological assessments.  I have an interest in working with individuals seeking to understand and manage areas that may be affecting their personal and professional lives such as work-related stress, low self-esteem and confidence; making decisions, and perfectionism.


I meet for regular supervision and have a commitment to continuous professional development to improve my skills through training and workshops as well as regular consultation with more senior therapists in order to provide the most effective therapy.

How Can I Help You

Psychological therapy is all about helping you to resolve your problems.  I offer therapy for adolescents, adults, the elderly, and groups.


I will discuss your specific difficulties and the goals you want to achieve.  Therapy often involves hard work during and between sessions.  I won’t tell you what to do, but will help you decide what difficulties you want to work on that will help improve your situation.  I will also help you take the skills you have learnt in session and apply them in your daily life after therapy ends.


Sessions  can be booked weekly, fortnightly, monthly or whatever suits your requirements.  The number of sessions you will need depends on the difficulty you need help with.  Often initial appointments are more frequent and then are spread further apart as distress decreases.  You may even find that one session is enough. On average, people require between five and 20 sessions.  My aim is to meet your requirements and help you to attain your goals.  I also provide ONLINE SKYPE THERAPY if requested.  I will discuss each method with you in more detail during your initial consultation, and of course you will be actively involved in choosing the best approach or approaches to use in your therapy.

Online Therapy with Skype

Online psychology services are a convenient way for you to access psychological therapy without needing to travel to appointments.  Your Skype session will be conducted just like a face-to-face appointment.  You are able to see, hear, and interact with me using virtual technology for your session.


Who is Online Therapy For?

This form of therapy is convenient for those who have difficulty travelling to appointments either because of distance / remoteness, mobility problems, anxiety issues which prevent you leaving your home, people with childcare commitments or simply those with a busy work and travel schedule.


What Issues Are Suited to Skype Therapy?

Common psychological issues such as depression, worry, anxiety (including agoraphobia), stress, grief, life direction issues, relationship difficulties, pain management, and anger management are all suitable for Skype therapy.


What Issues are Not Suited to Skype Therapy?

Online therapies are not suitable if your life is in danger through self-harming behaviors, harm to others, serious psychiatric disorders, or where there are concerns about the wellbeing of a child under the age of 16-years. 


Due to some differences in laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of Clinical Psychology between countries, Skype services are currently only available to those residing in New Zealand.


What You Need to Start Skype Therapy?

You will need a computer with a camera and audio capacity.  Internet broadband, or a strong and reliable internet connection, is essential.  You need to create a Skype account and you will need an email address and access to Internet Banking for payments.  For more information on how to use Skype, please click here (


It is also essential that you have a private space where you will not be disturbed for the duration of your 50-minute online therapy consultation.


Once you have made a Skype therapy appointment, you will receive an email from me with clear instructions on how to access your online appointment using Skype, as well as payment instructions.

Session Fees:

Each online therapy session is up to 50-minutes in duration and is to be prepaid at the time of booking your appointment.  Follow on sessions are to be paid in advance, before your session.

Professional Supervision

Supervision within the helping professions is a core component of professional practice.  I have completed formal training in supervision through Auckland University and can provide this service via face-to-face meetings or at distance via Skype.

What is Neuropsychological Assessment?

My comprehensive psychometric testing service has been carefully developed and designed to assess a person’s ability, intelligence, personality, or to identify a person’s specific difficulties, disorders, or deficits.  Psychometric testing can help with everything from identifying poor concentration or memory disorders, identifying changes related to brain injury, to the assessment of special needs related to disability.


Below are some of the areas of assessment offered at Psychology Worx.  All assessments are tailored to suit the individuals specific needs or concerns.

I offer psychometric testing for people of all ages. I am skilled at using a collection of standardised and validated tests and inventories that are specifically selected to address my client’s concerns. 


What’s Involved in Neuropsychological Assessment?

The initial meeting will consist of a comprehensive interview, obtaining all the relevant information around your concerns.  Based on this information, one or a number of tests will be selected that will address your questions.  You will then complete the assessment.  Tests may be administered by pencil and paper or computer.  Depending on the particular assessment used, you may be asked to complete checklists or written questions, answer questions verbally, remember and recite information, or perform timed tasks.


The length of the testing sessions varies and is customised to your specific needs; it may take an hour or a day or more.  The average testing session is approximately two hours.  Longer assessments can be arranged around your schedule. 


What is the Cost of An Assessment and Report?

The cost depends on the level of complexity of assessment and time involved.  The report fee includes all time spent on the case (reading of documents, face to face interviews, psychometric testing, phone consultations with other parties), cost of materials, and time writing the report. 


A written quote is provided for all assessment and report inquiries and a stated timeframe for completion is given.  Fees are fixed and capped, with the cost confirmed before assessment commences.  Cost is dependent on level of case complexity and time involved.  The report fee includes all time spent on the case (reading of documents, face to face interview, psychometric testing, phone consultations with other parties), cost of testing materials, and time writing the report.  With self-funded assessments, 50% of the quoted cost is required at the initial appointment, and final payment is required before the final version of the report is released.  A draft report will be provided to you for fact checking prior to finalising.
